Position Summary
The Cardiac Sonographer II performs and records echocardiography diagnostic tests following established protocols. The role involves obtaining detailed images of normal and abnormal cardiac anatomy to assist in diagnosing cardiovascular diseases. The Sonographer ensures the quality of echocardiographic exams, maintains accurate records, and delivers patient care appropriate to all age groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Review patient charts and previous studies to select appropriate equipment and prepare for procedures.
- Explain procedures to patients, ensuring comfort and cooperation; obtain necessary medical history.
- Perform echocardiographic studies using transducers to capture diagnostic images and assess cardiac anatomy and function.
- Complete sonographer reports, maintain image quality, and manage contrast agents as per departmental policy.
- Capture and upload images in CPACS; ensure proper workflow documentation in EPIC for orders, scheduling, and billing.
- Collaborate with physicians and healthcare staff to review and discuss test results.
- Maintain and clean equipment; perform minor adjustments and report malfunctions.
- Handle clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling, and managing supplies.
- Stay updated on current echocardiography techniques and trends through continuous learning.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction goals.
- Assist in the training of new staff and students.
- Maintain positive relationships with internal departments and external partner facilities.
Qualifications
- Certification: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent, with certification in at least one patient population.
- Additional Requirement: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience: Minimum one year of echocardiography training specific to the patient population.
- Strong understanding of echocardiology techniques and ability to independently perform diagnostic procedures.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with patients and medical staff effectively.
- Analytical ability to identify anatomic abnormalities and adjust imaging parameters appropriately.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and prioritization skills
